LAHORE: Two brothers who were earlier sentenced for eating five corpses dug out from a graveyard of the Darya Khan locality in Bhakkar district have again been found involved in cannibalism, DawnNews reported.
Police arrested one of the brothers, Mohammad Arif, on Monday and found a child's body parts at their residence. The other brother, Mohammad Farman, managed to flee before he could be detained.
Arif, previously convicted over cannibalism, was arrested today after police found a young boy's head in his home. Police said Arif confessed to eating human body parts during interrogation.
The two brothers, Arif, 35, and Farman, 30, from the small town of Darya Khan, had dug up more than 100 corpses from the local graveyard and eaten them in the past, police said.
"Residents informed police after a stench emanated from the house of the two brothers. We raided the house on Monday morning and found the head of a young boy," district police chief, Ameer Abdullah, told Reuters.
"We have arrested one of the brothers, Mohammad Arif, and are conducting raids for the arrest of the other brother."
Police were searching nearby graveyards to see if they had been disturbed, he said.
Arif and his brother were sentenced to two years imprisonment after they were found engaged in cannibalism and were released only last year.
Taking notice of the incident, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif called for a report from DPO Bhakkar.
Farman and Arif were first arrested for cannibalism in 2011 and the town had attracted both national and international media coverage when on April 3 that year, the newly-buried body of a girl was found in their house with a few limbs cooked in a curry.

I do not know what is the punishment for such acts according to PPC. However, two years awarded previously seems insufficient as it does not give enough time for these mentally ill persons to heal. Since they have repeated the offence they probably shall be locked for life of hanged.

It is a big question why the cannibals were sentenced for only two years when arrested previously? Cannibalism is as gruesome as murder. We have now reached to such stage of cruelty where no humanity exists. Man has started eating man. It may be due to hunger and immorality. Pakistan is already declared as terrorist state. Two years punishment for such crime is too less. Legislation should be done to increase the punishment. Also such criminals should be subjected to relevant psychiatric treatment. Furthermore, for addictive crimes like cannibalism follow up mechanism by the police must be employed.

Pakistan has no specific laws against cannibalism, they were first arrested under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) section of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) in 2011, and were later charged under section 295-A of the PPC.

Just two years of jail term is nothing for such a heinous crime. They should have been given atleast 20 years behind bars. This is another example of our poor judicial system. There are a lot of flaws in our judicial system. This system need to be revised. Now police will catch them and free them again by saying that the mental situation of these cannibals is not good. And they will starting eating the dead bodies again. Shame on our Police and Judiciary.

The more comments I read, the more outraged I become. What is wrong with you people? Granted, what they did was absolutely sick! But can you stop for a second and ask yourself why? Why would one human being eat the flesh of another human being - dead or alive? If these two brothers were diagnosed with cancer, society would have sent them to the doctors and given proper treatment - this is also an illness - unfortunately, you can't see it, as it is in the brains. It requires the same care and the patient is just as desperate for help, as anyone else with physical illness. Definitely, send them to a mental institution, force upon them certain medication, do not let them out of the mental institution unless the professionals feel they do not pose a threat to mankind - but killing them or putting them behind bars for several years? I think we have a come a long way and our thinking should reflect on that!

Why is there such a huge noice about this incident.
There were many incidents in Pakistan where the graveyards were dug in the past and order came from Mullahs of various sects against the minority sects in Pakistan. Why did people not speak at that time. Different standards. This is Gods punishment to your dead people. So congratulations.
But did someone ask why eating dead bodies? Is government doing enough to provide Roti to its people? Pakistanis cannot survive on oxygen alone.

It is an open mockery in the face of our laws of our land. The said brothers once arrested in 2011 and a few days later their incarceration, they were let loose again, saying that there is no section of law under which they could be convicted. This portrays the loopholes and lacuna existing in our laws, nothing more, nothing less. They must be arrested at once and put into jail. Human flesh eating is not only a sinister act but also a heinous crime.

Besides jokes, every body needs to step back and look at it in a more practical way. Around the world, people are eating all kinds of meat e.g. Donkey burgers, snake meat, horse meat and I can go on. Under PPC what crime did they commit other than desecrating graves and digging up dead bodies?

@ Ajmal, they were released because there is no law regarding cannibalism so they would be charged under PPO 1960, it's funny that our administrators and judiciary are busy banning Facebook and ignoring the ticking time bomb that is mental health and the criminally insane within our society.
Dumping the onus of responsibility on NGOs or the local community is all fine and dandy, but if 100''s of person hours of our legislators can be wasted discussing new and inventive ways on banning Facebook and YouTube, should we not demand that subjects such as this no matter how trivial the powers that be think they might be, get air time?

These brothers are clearly not mentally stable; they should have been given medical support immediately in 2011 and detained in a mental institution. Also, there are much more important matters occurring in the world - enforce the death penalty on people who actually deserve it (murderers/rapists/paedophiles), not two brothers who eat corpses. its Sad that Pakistan Gov does not have law in place against cannibalism, i think they should bring it out asap. secondly its very shocking to hear of this valgar crime but simular crimes are also happening throughtout the world. So I would not single out Pakistan, yes its horrible act but i think these brothers should never be let out and instead put into mental institution if one exists.
Kaash i was a millionaire business men, i would open a care centre in Pakistan for the elderly, the young childen, and womens refuge for battered women flying domestic violence. This things centres are norm here in western countries especially in Great Britan where I live, Maybe thats why Allah swt has given Wealth, Grace and respect to U.K because here the goverment does so much good for its nationals maythey be from any backgounds, race, colour, gender, disablility etc

Why not ask what is CII's (Council of Islamic Ideology) stand on this issue who recently made statements seeking amendments to the present laws to allow second marriage of men and child marriages in the name of Islam and religious principles. What about the sanctity of a dead human body under Islamic law? I am curious if CII has done any work on this subject keeping in mind dead bodies are used routinely in medical schools and for research purposes all over the world including Pakistan.

What good is the court if it cannot ensure punishment to the criminals so that others may not join in the offence.These bastards were let loose by the court after two years.
