LAHORE: Passenger hardships may lessen in next fog season 2014-15 as the Civil Aviation Authority is all set to acquire multi-million dollar instrument landing system (ILS) to ensure safe landing of aircraft in fog or zero visibility at Lahore airport.

Officials told Dawn on Wednesday that the authorities concerned had taken the decision in principle and were awaiting approval from the CAA board.

Fog persists in Lahore a month in the winter season. Officials said about 1,000 PIA and foreign airlines flights get affected directly or indirectly in terms of diversion or delay.

Officials said the authority would acquire the latest equipment (ILS CAT-III).
